I think, having tried for many years, I can now say with confidence that I am not a runner. It might be because I have dumpy little legs, or because the most accurate description of my body type would be "heavy" but no matter how hard I have tried over the years, I just can't get into it. Being a determined little sausage, however, every Saturday morning without fail I dust off my running shoes and head out on an incredibly pedestrian 10k run. Most weeks the time will pass in a distinctly unspectacular fashion. I give a few people a wave. I process what happened in the week, and mostly, I think about the pancakes I am going to make "for the kids" when I get home. However, one cold December morning, just after Christmas as I plodded pathetically around South East London, I was struck with an idea. What if you had to really survive Christmas with your family?
Two years after that run, that idea became a fully formatted screenplay. A Chrismassacre is a dark comedy following the story of Evie Potts, a ghostwriter living in London who returns home to her family's Christmas tree farm for the holidays. After a chance encounter with an old friend, Evie's world is turned upside down, when he passes out and turns into a flesh-eating monster.
A Chrismassacre was rated in the top 5% of screenplays submitted to We Screenplay in 2022 and has been optioned by a production company based in London. Below is part of the initial treatment submitted for the film.
